large error_log file joomla, php5.4
Posted by Wolf Leonhardt on 15 July 2014 02:58 PM

Since recent updates to WHM/Cpanel moved php to version 5.4, large error logs started to appear. Due to the size of the error log they are difficult to open.

The answer in this case was that with the change to version 5.4  E_STRICT began throwing errors

Apparently before version 5.4.0 E_strict was not part of E_all, so as a result it did not need to be dealt with in your php.ini.  Since older versions of software like Joomla may not adhere to "stict"  practices, this then caused multiple errors.

Solution is to go through whm, select configure PHP, then select Advanced Mode  then scroll down to Error_reporting and change the value to

E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E-DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT    (The squiggle ~ means not - do not report this type of error)

I also set the ignore_repeated_errors to Off
